Juxtaposition?

Juxtaposition, is definitely a new word to me. During the last class, that was my first time hearing that strange word. The definition of that word goes something like a combination of two different objects which will bring a totally different and new meaning. Like other classes before, there will be an activity for us. Well, Mr Radzi prepared a list with number and the object listed. We have to choose three of our favourite numbers and illustrate the combination of the two object in a sketch. So the chosen number is 08,17.24. And the result is here:

THE FIRST NUMBER IS 08(Fly+wood)

THE SECOND ONE IS 17(flower+tree)


THE LAST ONE WILL BE 24(lightning+mountain)

All of my design fundemental class during the foundation came back to me suddenly. Why? it's because this time around, in creative studies class Mr. Radzi asked us to create a creative mind map on our own evil characteristic. In that short period of time, this is what i made! The not so end-product! :D

Bill Gates

The founder of Windows, Bill Gates, is a great man who had contributed a lot in the computer technology society. Why? Obvious because of the operating system that he created, Windows, which is now, one of the biggest brand on earth with a multi-million dollar roll in the founder bank every each year! How can that not be when majority of the population on earth used a computer and have to decide between only 2 operating system? One is the expensive Mac, and the other is the cheap but in the same par with the expensive one, Windows. Obviously most of the people will go with Windows instead of Mac. Not saying that Mac is not good, in fact it is a great OS(Operating system). However the expensive price of Mac is big turn off for computer users. Having said that, it is clear that Windows are people's choice. Let's not talk about which one is better or cheaper. Let's talk about Bill Gates, the man behind the Windows!

Maybe most of us thought that he(Bill Gates) must have been living an easy life. Let me put it straight. You who have that kind of thought are wrong. Why? Yeah, he have a lot of money, does not have to worry about money at all and so on. However, the steps that he takes walking his way to what he is now, is a great deal of intense challenge. Like most of us, he did not achieve what he wants on his first try. In fact, he tried and work on what he did for a great deal of times. Because of his failures, he managed to learn from his mistake, and he turned out pretty successful. In fact, he is one of the most successful person on earth, came with the crown for the richest person on earth for 15 consecutive years as a proof! Even after his success, he still are facing other problem, such as he's been critisized for his lack of business tactic and uncompetetive mind. This prove that, being the best doesn't mean you are the best. Everyone have a room for improvement.

To sum it all, Bill Gates is a great man who started the fire of revolution and made our life easier with the born of Windows which never stop to improve and impressed us with it's new features! As for the image that i have to create to represent Bill Gates, as we were told by Mr Radzi, I created the image below to show that people are really thankful to Bill Gates and the thumbs up is to show how good the product is! :)

Novelty

Last week, Mr. Radzi teach us about novelty in our creative studies class. His definition on novelty is "the quality of being new. Although it may be said to have an objective dimension (e.g. a new style of art coming into being, such as abstract art or impressionism) it essentially exists in the subjective perceptions of individuals." I found his explanation is well delivered and does not went against my point of view regarding the word novelty at all.

However, if I was asked to define novelty with my own words, it would be novelty is taking or upgrading an invention that had already been established into another level or phase. Meaning, it is a modification of something to achieve a greater benefit. Take our most used device in our century, which is our cell phone.

Okay! This cell phone right up here was the real thing back in 90th's. It gave a great impact on the people at that time and it is the source of evolution which create today multi-funcitional cell phone! However the only thing that this sweet thing capable on doing is the voice call and text messaging with some other few literal functions. Even so, this cell phone is enough to fulfill the specification needed to be a decent handphone, which the main purpose or function is to communicate with other through voice call. Even greater it also have the text messaging function. However, the technology does not stop there. There are a lot of technology enthutism out there, who want to add more function in it. That is when novelty or the term which I ocasionally used, modification, took placed. Have you been wondering what is the result?

Here is the result! Well not exactly, but this great device up here should be more than enough to portray how cell phone have gone through all the modification in just a period or time. From being created just for the sake to make a voice call, to text messaging, and now even way greater, it can take pictures, video, record sound, net browsing, and even can make a video call! How great has this sweet stuff have grown into? You tell me! this show how great modification or novelty can be. Of course some might argue about originality and what not. Even so, without novelty, there wont be any evolution around us! The technology wont be revolving throughout the time. So invention and novelty both serve their own purpose, on their own path. There wont be any novelty without invention, and invention will not grow or evolve without novelty! :)

Creativity

Usually people define creativity as a mental and social process involving the generation of new or concepts, or new associations of the creative mind between existing ideas or concepts, creativity is fueled by the process of either conscious or unconscious insight. This one is based from wikipedia.

However, the way that I define creativity or creative is the way that someone look into something with an exaggeration and taking the medium into another dimension where we could understand the meaning, even when the meaning was not portrayed physically. Take the image below as an example.This image was taken from source.

The image above is sort of a comic strip, but without the cartoon and all. The cartoon was replaced with the real images. The medium that was used were fruits. Even though there was no dialogue, the message was clear, i can tell. Wat was portrayed in here physically was just an orange. But what the author did was, he/she take the image into another dimension or perspective where the meaning or message can be seen in that particular perspective.

Beside the exaggeration of an image, there are also a footage or video clip that brings the definition of creativity. Take the nearest and daily shown example in our daily life. Such as the advertisement in television, billboard, newspaper and any other medium. There will always be a form of creativity that was put into it to make it more interesting.

Creative Studies

Finally, I'm in 3rd semester in Beta year. One of the subject that I'll be learning this semester is Creative Studies. I hope to learn more about arts and what ever that falls in it's category. I wiill update with more post regarding this particular subject soon! Cheers!
